Tutorial

Get started with Flowlary

A short walkthrough for new users. Install the extension, turn on what you need, and start writing — no API keys or provider setup.

Step-by-step

Follow these in order the first time you use Flowlary.

  1. Install the Chrome extension

Flowlary runs as a Chrome extension. Until a public Chrome Web Store listing is linked, use Get Flowlary on this site to reach the current install instructions, or load an unpacked build from the repository for development.

After install, pin Flowlary in the Chrome toolbar so the popup is one click away.

  2. Open the popup and confirm the extension is active

Click the Flowlary icon. The popup is your compact control surface: extension status, feature toggles, quick actions, plan usage, and a link to the full dashboard.

If the extension is paused, turn it on with the master switch before expecting any feature to run.

  3. Enable Flowlary AI

Writing correction and translation use Flowlary AI through api.flowlary.com. The first time, accept Flowlary AI when prompted — in the popup or under Settings → AI in the dashboard. You do not add an API key or choose a provider.

Keyboard layout remapping can still work locally when Flowlary AI is temporarily unavailable.

  4. Turn on the features you want

From the popup, enable Writing Correction, Translation, optional Live Translation, and Keyboard Layout independently. Nothing runs as a hidden chain — translation does not silently correct, and correction does not silently translate.

Live translation is off by default. Turn it on only when you want updates while you type.

  5. Choose languages and writing preferences

Open the dashboard from the popup footer. In Settings, set translation source and target languages, correction mode (direct edit or suggestion card), and keyboard-layout shortcut options.

Writing correction focuses on English. Other languages are left alone rather than rewritten.

  6. Try the quick actions

With a supported text field focused, use Translate or Fix Layout from the popup, or use the keyboard shortcuts below. Flowlary checks the field first and skips passwords, payment fields, and code editors.

Speed Box is a separate overlay for one-off layout conversion — open it with its shortcut when you are not editing the original field.

  7. Use the dashboard for the full picture

Overview shows status, plan, usage, and all features. Settings holds appearance, languages, Flowlary AI, and your local activity log. Privacy explains what stays on your device and what Flowlary AI processes.

Progress shows your local activity summary. Full learning analytics will arrive in a later release.

  8. Create an account when you are ready (optional)

Flowlary works without an account for local features. Sign in on the website or extension to sync plan and Flowlary AI usage. Billing and Pro upgrades appear on the account page when checkout is enabled.

Use the same email and password on the website and in the extension.
